Entrance requirements are much harder to get in to a PhD in Clinical Psychology versus a master's level degree in marriage and family therapy (MFTs). Psychologists have many more years of education and training than Marriage and Family Therapists (MFTs) and LCSWs. Psychologists are the only therapists allowed to conduct psychological testing. MFTs and LCSWs are not allowed to conduct psychological testing. PhD level psychologists have more education and training than PsyDs, and entrance to PhD programs is also much harder.
